Eravikulam National Park, Kerala

The Neelakurunji flower is indeed one of Mother Nature’s most precious creations. It blooms once in a blue moon, 12 years to be specific, but when it does, it takes over every nook and corner of the Eravikulam National Park in Kerala.

Kerala is blessed to have more than 40% of its landscape as mountains and ranges. The boundaries it shares with Karnataka and Tamil Nadu is through the infinitely beautiful Nilgiri ranges, Brahmagiri Mountain Ranges,  Satyamangalam Forest and Bandiur forest. It is part of the beautiful and sensitive western ghats and has number of tiger reserves and national parks.

To the south of Kerala, amidst the the mighty Nilgiri range and on the National Highway 49  is a small town of Munnar. It is a popular hill station with wide spread tea estates across the mountains with  Tata Tea having the monopoly in this region. Few kilometers from this town towards Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) is the Anamudi Mountain . It is the highest peak in South India at 8841 ft. Its also home to one of the rarest types of national parks perched on top of this mountain.

Eravikulam National Park was established in the year 1978 at Devikulam Taluk, Idukki District of Kerala. It is spread on an area of 97 Sq.Km. The mean highest point is 2000m above sea level. It has a unique vegetation called Shola Grasslands which are seen at high altitudes.  It is home to some of the rare Flora and fauna which can be seen in the western ghats. Once the base camp is reached, visitors are taken in a mini bus to the peak from which one needs to trek. It gives an opportunity to  have a glimpse of mother nature’s creation at its best. One even encounters animals happily grazing on the lanes. It also gives a spectacular view of the Anamudi mountain and its ranges.

During the time of boarding the SMRT or the bus, one needs to tap at the entrance and the cards ID is stored. At the time of getting down, the distance is calculated and the amount is cut. This avoids the use of money and save a lot of paper in terms of ticket.

Singapore being one of the Global Cities has an advanced integrated transport system. It mainly comprises of SMRT (Singapore Mass Rapid Transport System), Busses and cabs. Its public transport is used by thousands of workers who prefer to skip their personal vehicles. They certainly have plenty of reasons to do so.

Also it helps in bringing down the corruption and thus increase the revenue for the government.

Singapore – Changi Airport

The airport is so huge that we hardly feel the presence of millions of people going through it. It has a very good viewing point of the aircraft parked. The entertainment zones are one of the best in the world with free internet, LAN connected games. Xbox, play stations and jamming area.

The moment you step down from the airlines, you wont realize the mammoth size of the airport. Once you start walking through the terminal you go through many escalators and also an Intra Airport train service to go to a different terminal. Then you will come to know how huge this structure is. With a mono rail as a medium to travel in between different terminals, no wonder Changi airport is voted the best airport in the world multiple times.

The interiors are nicely decorated with modern art in some places and live garden around the pillars. It has wind and light deflecting ceilings for energy efficiency. The ground is totally covered with carpet unlike granite or costly marbles in India. Colours chosen blend with the atmosphere.

These are the things one experience as he steps down into Singapore. The kind of impression it leaves lasts for ever. It is truly a marvelous man made structure.
